What can you do in Australia to help Tibet? The best thing you can do is write to your local, state and federal politicians. Tell them that you are not happy with the current situation in Tibet and tell them that you want them to address your concerns.
If you are concerned about the current situation in Tibet send a letter to members of the Australian Government asking them to make representations to the Chinese Government on behalf of the Tibetan people.
We recommend that your letter contains these 3 points:
1. That the brutal repression in Tibet must cease immediately.
2. A request that the Chinese authorities in Tibet enter into peaceful dialogue with the Tibetan people to restore normalcy. 3. A request that Australian government representatives inform themselves of the true situation in Tibet by sending a high-level delegation to investigate the matter.
Please feel free to use the sample letter below, or you can write your own letter with the above mentioned 3 points.
Dear (insert name)
I am writing to ask you to make urgent representations to the Chinese Government to help ease the present situation in
As you are no doubt aware, the Chinese authorities in
At this time the situation has deteriorated and the Tibetan people are subject to intense and brutal repression in the wake of the protests. There have been reports that Chinese armed forces have arrested, detained, beaten and shot at Tibetan protesters across the I respectfully request you to make representations to the Chinese Government, as follows: 1. That the brutal repression of the Tibetan people in response to the protests be immediately suspended. 2. As a means of restoring normalcy in Tibet, that the Chinese Government enter into peaceful dialogue with the Dalai Lama or the Tibetan Government in Exile to address issues of concern to the Tibetan people (who do not have the freedom to enter into frank dialogue themselves).
3. I urge the Australian Government to discover the truth about the unrest in The Chinese authorities have claimed that the current unrest has been masterminded by the Dalai Lama and the Tibetan Government in Exile (TGIE). This is untrue. In fact the protests are a manifestation of the long-held and deep-rooted resentment of the Tibetan people under the present governance; governance that is characterized by brutal repression of the Tibetan people, their culture and their freedom of religion.
