His Holiness the Dalai Lama of Tibet   Mankind is crying out for help. Ours is a desperate time. Those who have something to offer should come forward. Now is the time.
- His Holiness the Dalai Lama

During his Australian tour in 2007, His Holiness the Dalai Lama stated that ‘Tibetan culture could be "finished" in 10 -15 years, if China does not allow the region to govern itself.’ He also said that this was a very critical time for Tibet, and that we, as westerners, should do whatever we can to help the Tibetan situation.

With the lead up to the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games, it is a critical time politically for Tibet as world attention focuses on China and its’ questionable human rights record is brought to public attention. Indeed this could be one of the last significant opportunities to save the Tibetan culture from annihilation.

Take Action

  • filmmaker Dhondup WangchenAmnesty International has issued an "Urgent Action" for the imprisoned Tibetan filmmaker Dhondup Wangchen (Leaving Fear Behind) in this period leading up to his trial. The "Urgent Action" calls for participation in a letter writing campaign to the relevant Chinese authorities.

Dhondup Wangchen made the documentary "Leaving Fear Behind" ("Jigdrel" in Tibetan) and was detained shortly after filming was completed in March 2008.

Dhondup Wangchen's health is a particular point of concern. According to recent information he suffers from Hepatitis B and is receiving no medical treatment.

Our fear is that a very heavy sentence will be handed down to Dhondup Wangchen and are therefore campaigning for his release!!! Please read Amnesty International's urgent action and take action: www.leavingfearbehind.com

  • There are two petitions urging the UN & EU to press for independent access to HH Panchen Lama who has now been under Chinese government detention for 14 years. We are trying to gather as many signatures as possible in time for sending the petitions on April 25, the 20th birthday of the Panchen Lama. Could you please share the petition links below with as many people as possible and request them to add their signatures to this incredibly improtant issue.
